Clothing and Fashion For the Inside

Susie Bellamy Devotionals, Faith 4 Comments

I would have to say that most women enjoy shopping for and wearing nice clothes and adorning themselves with beautiful jewelry. I am not going to rule out the fact that some men enjoy getting well-tailored clothes that help project a positive appearance. Clothing can “speak” volumes about who we are.

We are headed into a season of award shows that celebrate television and movie stars, musicians and many who are involved in theater. As we watch these entertainment figures parade before the cameras, it is obvious they have gone to great expense to look their best.

I am going to toss in a little caveat here. I couldn’t help but overhear a well-dressed man reduce his wife and children to tears as he got into his car to leave for work. I watched a smartly dressed woman embarrass a client during a sales presentation.

Have you ever watched a person of influence while driving his car blow the horn impatiently while at a traffic light?

I came across a verse in Colossians 3 (vs. 12) that draws attention to a different kind of clothing. It takes us into God’s clothes closet and offers a wonderful selection of attributes from which to choose. He lists tender-hearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. The apostle Paul tells us that we can “put on” these qualities revealing to us that we have a choice, isn’t it exciting to know that we have an opportunity to dress spiritually each day?

Yes, an outward appearance is nice, but it is better to dress spiritually with these GOD-given qualities.

In order to complete our outfit, verse 14 tells us to adorn ourselves with LOVE. Periodically, I need to read I Corinthians 13 to remind myself what true LOVE really is.

I Samuel 16:7b (NLT) “…the LORD doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”

Heavenly Father, Prepare our hearts with your beautiful Spirit each morning before we greet our family and go out into the market place to work with others. Clothe us with your righteousness.  A-men

    Dear Kim
There is nothing more beautiful, dear friend, than a woman who is clothed with a gentle quiet spirit. Oh, that we will always be clothed with our Lord Jesus so that His beauty can shine in us and through us.

Mia, I could not agree more. How I wish the young women trying so hard to look and act like the people they see on TV and in magazines would believe this. It would change their lives.

Hi Susie! I like how you took an ‘outside thing’ and related to the ‘inside things’. Clothes are wonderful and keep us warm, modest and feeling great. But it doesn’t say anything about what and who we really are. Like your examples of well-dressed people acting miserably, what’s more important?

We can all agree that it’s the way we treat people. And you had such great images to relate to here.

PS I can totally relate to the Spam. I was getting socked at Blogger. I just hope the math questions stay simple. I am miserable with numbers!

Ceil, Welcome Back! Thank you for your visit. Agreed, it is the way we treat people that is important. Hundreds of SPAM messages prompted the extra security (no joke), but they will stay very simple. Promise.
