Do not fear, God is with you

The Strain of Loneliness

Susie Bellamy Devotionals 8 Comments

Some of you may remember listening to the mellifluous voice of Elvis Presley singing “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry.” Ricky Nelson decided he would go to “Lonesome Town” to cry his troubles away.

Today we listen to artists like Christina Perri and Blake Shelton singing about being lonely. No matter your gender, your age, your tax bracket, or the situation you were born into, no one is immune from loneliness.

Sometimes the spirit of loneliness settles down on me too. It’s a dilemma we all may deal with at one time or another, and it can be debilitating if we let it.

Do Not Be Afraid, The Lord is With You

Coping with Loneliness

We don’t have to be a recluse to experience loneliness. We can be surrounded by people (family and friends) and fall prey to this emotion. As a result, I decided to look for ways to conquer this monster.

David also knew what it was like to be lonely and betrayed. He was one of eight sons and when Samuel the prophet came to interview his father, Jesse, in regards to the boys, David was overlooked at first.

Remember David ran from King Saul for ten years and sought refuge in caves. He was hunted like a wild animal before becoming king.

[Tweet “Repeat after me: He will neither fail you nor abandon you.”] Psalm 25:16 (NIV) tells us how David reached out to God. He cried out to Him, “Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted.”

Psalm 23:4 states “…you are with me.”

Paul reminds us in Acts 17:27 “He is not far from each of us.”

Genesis 28:15 tells us God spoke to Jacob and assured him that he was with him.

I Kings 6:13 The Lord gives a message to Solomon stating He will never abandon His people.

Deuteronomy 31:6 (NLT) encourages us : “So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the Lord your GOD will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.”

I have decided that establishing a moment by moment, daily relationship with God through His Holy Spirit, He is there to help me through these troubling times. Why not let God heal you today?

PRAYER ~ Heavenly Father ~ Only you can help us through these moments when we feel so alone. It is then we can experience your loving care and power. A-men

Those are some of my favorite verses! I love that we are never really alone. God is always a constant companion, whether we “feel” him or not. Thanks for sharing this encouraging message, Kim. His presence is always worth talking about.

Lisa, I wish we could feel Him all of the time. But I guess we wouldn’t need faith as much then. Thanks for stopping in.

You hit the nail on the head! We must practice experiencing His presence during our times of loneliness. After a lifetime of someone always being around I am alone. Slowly I am recognizing I am truly never alone, unless I allow the whispers of the world to convince me otherwise. He is truly always right by my side. I simply must turn and recognize His presence.
